Dates: Thursdays: 3/27, 4/3, 4/10, 4/17, 4/24, 5/1
Time: 6-9 PM
Location: Bittersweet Studios, 1515 N Rosa Parks Way, Portland, OR 97217
Curious about pottery or ready to build on past experience? Whether you’re a first-timer or looking to refresh your skills, this 6-week course is a great fit. Our class sizes are capped at 5 people right now, so you’re sure to get the one on one help you need to succeed.
In this weekly three hour hands-on class, you'll learn the essentials of throwing pottery on the wheel, trimming, attachments, handbuilding and glazing your pots. To make the most of your learning experience, we offer open studio hours during the first week from 5-8 PM Friday, 2-5PM Saturday, and 3-6PM Thursday. Starting in week 2, you’ll have independent access to the studio outside of class hours (a door code will be provided). We kindly ask students to limit their additional studio time to 5 hours per week. Students can fire up to 8 medium size pots as part of their course, and can pay the member firing fees ($1.00 per lb per firing) for any additional pots they would like to fire.
Here’s a glimpse of the course schedule:
Week 1: Wedging, centering, coning, and throwing basics
Week 2: Trimming techniques
Week 3: Attachments and handbuilding
Week 4: Throwing bowls and cylinders
Week 5: Underglaze and glaze basics
Week 6: Glaze party to finish and celebrate your hard work.
Due to the sequential nature of this series, we cannot offer make-up classes. Please plan on attending every class session.
Cancellation/refund policy: Refunds are available with 10 days’ notice before the first class date. You can choose between store credit for the full amount, or a refund to your card, minus a $50 processing fee. No refunds will be given for less than 10 days’ notice.
